Ambulatory/Office Nursing (AON)
SIG Strategic Plan 2007-2009

Mission Statement
Ambulatory/Office oncology nursing exists to provide optimal care to individuals with an actual and/or potential diagnosis of cancer who require treatment in an outpatient setting. Therefore, the mission of the Ambulatory/Office Nursing SIG is to promote excellence in oncology nursing by:

  • Enhancing the visibility of ambulatory/office oncology nurses within the private/public sector
  • Encouraging research and writing within the subspecialty of ambulatory/office oncology nursing
  • Promoting collegial sharing of technical and clinical experiences with an emphasis upon environmental concerns
  • Fostering prevention and detection skills within the ambulatory/office setting in order to heighten public and political awareness of cancer patients chronic needs
  • Developing a network for ambulatory/office oncology nurses that will be responsive to the changing needs of SIG members, ONS members and the patient population served.
The Ambulatory/Office Nursing SIG mission will be accomplished by implementing the following strategic goals:
  1. To develop products, services, opportunities and a knowledge base that promote excellence in oncology nursing
    1. Actualize mission of the Ambulatory/Office Nursing SIG under administration of ONS
    2. To encourage publication of information and research within the subspecialty of ambulatory/office oncology nursing
    3. Develop guidelines for documentation tools/methods for recording care delivered in ambulatory/office setting
    4. Develop guidelines/awareness for safe environmental work sites for ambulatory/office oncology nurses
    5. To develop and implement prevention and detection assessment skills in ambulatory/office nursing practice
  2. To enhance the image, visibility and recognition of ambulatory/office oncology nursing
    1. Develop fact sheet describing role/functions of ambulatory/office nurses to enhance identity
    2. Promotion of vehicles for SIG members to network through participation at National meetings sponsored by ONS
    3. To strengthen collaboration between SIG leadership and SIG membership
